Home > Computing & Technology > What is BluRay (not BlueRay)? What is BluRay (not BlueRay)?Blu-ray is the name for one of the two (the other being HD-DVD) next generational optical disc format. The Blu-ray format utilizes a blue-violet laser to read and write data. Unlike the conventional DVD format the Blu-ray blue-violet laser is extremely focused, meaning that the dimples and bumps on the disc can be small about five times smaller then that of DVD\'s. By making the dimples and bumps small the manufacture is able to fit more of these in a track, thus increasing the overall storage capacity. The Blu-ray format can store 25GB of data per layer and a maximum of 50GB on dual layer. © Onimoto.Com. All rights reserved.
